Springfield College Kandy produced an outstanding performance at the All Island Inter School Team Table Tennis Championship, securing the U10 “A” Division Championship at the Bandaragama Indoor Stadium on 10 July 2026.
The young Springfield paddlers demonstrated remarkable skill, composure and teamwork throughout the tournament, finishing at the top of their group to qualify for the knockout stages. Their impressive run continued as they overcame some of the country’s strongest school teams on their way to the championship title.
In the quarter final, Springfield College defeated Maliyadewa College, Kurunegala, booking their place in the semi-final. They maintained their momentum in the next round, overcoming Dharmashoka College, Ambalangoda, in a hard fought semi-final to earn a place in the grand final.
The decisive final saw Springfield College come up against St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa. Showing confidence and determination beyond their years, the Springfield team rose to the occasion and secured victory to be crowned the All Island U10 “A” Division Champions.
The championship winning team consisted of Hassan Zaman, Hussein Zaman and Mohammad Usman, whose individual talent and ability to perform as a cohesive unit were key to Springfield’s success.
The young champions were guided throughout the competition by their dedicated coaches, Mrs. Kanchana Wedagedara and Mr. Rajesh Kumar, whose training, guidance and encouragement played an important role in the team’s achievement.
Winning an All Island championship at such a young age is a significant achievement for the three players and represents a proud moment for Springfield College Kandy. The team’s journey from topping the group stage to defeating three strong opponents in the knockout rounds reflects not only their technical ability but also their discipline, resilience and competitive spirit.
The triumph is expected to further inspire the school’s young table tennis players and strengthen Springfield College Kandy’s presence in inter school table tennis. For Hassan, Hussein and Mohammad, the championship provides a memorable milestone early in their sporting careers and a strong foundation for future success on the national school sporting circuit.
Springfield College Kandy’s U10 team has now firmly placed its name among the champions of school table tennis, bringing home an impressive All Island “A” Division title.
