Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Major General (Retired) Nayyar Naseer, met Deputy Defence Minister Major General (Retired) Aruna Jayasekara at the Deputy Defence Ministry office in Colombo on Monday (11).
The meeting took place at the Deputy Defence Minister’s office in Colombo on Monday (11).
During the discussions, both sides have focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in areas including defence collaboration, military training opportunities and regional security coordination.
The talks also covered emerging security challenges linked to climate-related disasters, with both parties highlighting the growing importance of disaster management within national security frameworks.
Officials have further exchanged views on the need for coordinated and technology-driven responses to natural disasters as climate risks continue to increase across the region.
Attention was also drawn to transnational maritime crimes, particularly drug trafficking, with both sides acknowledging the importance of stronger technical cooperation and intelligence-sharing mechanisms to address such threats effectively.
Jayasekara also conveyed his best wishes to the Pakistani envoy for a successful diplomatic tenure in Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
