The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) says a decision on the proposed electricity tariff revision will be announced within the month, with the public consultation process concluding today after islandwide feedback collection, including a final session in the Western Province at BMICH.
PUCSL is reviewing a proposal by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to increase electricity tariffs by 13.56% for the April–June 2026 period, citing a projected revenue shortfall of Rs. 15.8 billion.
According to the submission, total electricity supply costs are estimated at Rs. 136.5 billion, while projected revenue stands at Rs. 116.9 billion. The CEB has proposed applying the increase uniformly across all consumer categories.
PUCSL has raised several concerns, including increased capacity costs, delays in finalizing fuel supply agreements, and the inclusion of extraordinary expenses in transmission and distribution costs.
The Commission said further clarifications have been sought from the CEB and invited stakeholder input before making a final determination. (Newswire)
