A rice supplier has been fined Rs. 1 million by the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court after being found guilty of supplying rice above the government-imposed Maximum Retail Price (MRP), the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said.
The conviction followed legal action initiated by the CAA over the sale of Red Nadu rice labelled at Rs. 225 per kilogram, exceeding the government-approved maximum retail price of Rs. 220 per kilogram introduced in 2022.
The case was taken up before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (06), where the court found the supplier guilty and imposed a fine of Rs. 1 million. (Newswire)
