Sri Lanka plans to issue first digital ID by year-end

Sri Lanka plans to issue its first digital identity card by the end of this year, as work on the initiative continues under the government’s digital transformation programme, the President’s Media Division said.

This was disclosed during a review of the project, when Ministry of Digital Economy officials briefed President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on its progress at the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday.

According to the President’s Media Division, the president reviewed progress on the process of introducing the digital identity card, while ministry officials said the necessary preparations were currently underway.

The digital ID initiative is among several projects being implemented as part of the government’s broader digital economy strategy. (Newswire)
