The Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens has received 10 new electric vehicles aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and further promoting tourism at one of Sri Lanka’s most popular attractions.

The vehicles were handed over recently under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody as part of an initiative funded entirely through government allocations.

Officials said the project addresses a long-standing transportation requirement within the gardens and will enable both local and foreign visitors to conveniently explore the vast premises using an environmentally friendly mode of transport.

The electric vehicles are expected to improve accessibility across the gardens, which attract large numbers of tourists daily.

Kandy District MP Thanura Dissanayake, Director General of the Department of National Botanic Gardens Chandrika Jayawardena, and several senior officials of the department were also present at the event. (Newswire)
