Sri Lanka’s Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has reported tax revenue of Rs. 606 billion for the first quarter of 2026, marking a 17.7% increase compared to the same period last year.

In a statement issued on April 10, the IRD said the revenue was collected during the period from January 1 to March 31, 2026, with contributions increasing across all major tax categories, including Income Tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), and the Social Security Contribution Levy (SSCL).

The Department noted that the growth in revenue collection was driven by economic expansion, implementation of tax policy reforms, improved tax administration, and increased voluntary tax compliance.

The IRD also stated that the revenue collected during the first quarter represents approximately 25% of its annual revenue target for 2026.

The Department further acknowledged the contribution of taxpayers, as well as public and private sector institutions, noting that their cooperation helped achieve the strong revenue performance during the first three months of the year.

The announcement was made by Inland Revenue Commissioner General Rukdevi P.H. Fernando. (Newswire)
