Traffic restrictions announced for Ironman 70.3 Colombo

Traffic restrictions will be in place in parts of Colombo on Sunday to facilitate the Ironman 70.3 Colombo event, police said.

According to the Sri Lanka Police, the triathlon, scheduled for Feb. 22, will feature more than 700 participants competing in swimming, cycling and running segments.

The cycling and running routes will cover areas including Colombo city, Port City, Galle Face, Kollupitiya, Bambalapitiya and Wellawatte.

Traffic movement will be restricted from 6:00 a.m. along key junctions and roads including Ceramic Junction, Kompannavidiya, Sir James Peiris Mawatha, Navam Mawatha, Liberty Roundabout, Galle Road, Rotunda Junction and Kollupitiya, extending towards Dehiwala.

Police also said heavy vehicles will not be permitted to enter the Galle Face area via Kollupitiya or Ceramic Junction during the restricted period.

Motorists and the public have been advised to use alternative routes and cooperate with traffic officers to minimise inconvenience. (Newswire)
