
Police have arrested four suspects in connection with several gold chain robberies reported in the Horana area in recent months, police said.
The suspects, arrested on Sunday (30), include two men accused of carrying out the robberies and two women who allegedly helped by pawning the stolen gold jewellery.
Police said the suspects are believed to have robbed a gold chain and pendant from a woman working at a shop in Horana, as well as gold chains and pendants from two women in the Welikala area within two days.
They are also suspected of robbing a gold chain and pendant from a woman in Gonapola and a gold chain from a person working at a shop in the Munagama area.
The two male suspects, aged 25 and 23, are residents of Horana and Anguruwatota, while the two female suspects are both aged 53 and are residents of the same areas, police said.
Investigators have recovered a pair of stolen gold jewellery items, a pawn ticket and three motorcycles allegedly used in the robberies.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Horana headquarters police. (Newswire)
