Sri Lankan racing driver Dilantha Malagamuwa has rejected allegations linking him to an alleged property fraud, describing the accusations against him as false and baseless.
In a social media statement on Thursday titled “Sudu Minissu,” Malagamuwa said he was watching with equanimity as allegations were being levelled against him and expressed confidence in the judicial process.
“For more than four decades, I have shed much blood, sweat and tears and made immense sacrifices for the sport I love as deeply as the mother who gave birth to me and the country I was born in,” he said.
Malagamuwa said he had been falsely accused of involvement in a property fraud and urged those making the allegations to await the outcome of the judicial process.
“Keep your eyes fixed on the judgment of the Goddess of Justice,” he said, adding that he would remain guided by the Buddhist teaching of not being shaken by the Eight Worldly Conditions.
His statement comes days after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) made submissions to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court concerning an alleged land fraud involving forged deeds.
The investigation relates to the alleged sale of a 43-perch property on Barnes Place, Colombo 7, reportedly valued at more than Rs. 2.5 billion, for Rs. 1 billion.
The CID told court that preliminary investigations had indicated that three individuals allegedly shared money from the transaction, while Malagamuwa allegedly received 14 luxury vehicles instead of cash. Investigations into the allegations are continuing.
The CID had also sought an overseas travel ban against Malagamuwa and three others. However, Colombo Additional Magistrate Lahiru Silva rejected the request at that stage and directed investigators to first take steps to name the four individuals as suspects before seeking travel restrictions.
Malagamuwa has now publicly rejected the allegations against him, maintaining that claims that he committed property fraud are false. (Newswire)
