Agriculture Minister K. D. Lal Kantha assured that there is no shortage of fertilizer and said supplies would be sufficient for the Yala season.
He said fertilizer is currently being distributed through Govi Jana Seva centres across the country. Minister Lal Kantha noted that fertilizer distribution through the private sector had been temporarily suspended over the past few days at the request of the ministry, but said distribution would now resume as usual.
“There will be no issue with fertilizer for any crop during the Yala season, whether it is vegetables, coconut, tea or paddy,” he said.
However, the minister acknowledged that there were some distribution-related issues and said the ministry was intervening to resolve them.
He also claimed that there were political attempts to create the impression of a fertilizer shortage and to falsely suggest that fertilizer had been purchased at inflated prices. He warned that legal action would be taken against those responsible for spreading such claims. (Newswire)
