A 34-year-old man from Jaffna, against whom a travel ban had been imposed, was arrested while attempting to leave the country via the Katunayake Airport on Wednesday (Apr 10).
It is reported that the Negombo Magistrate’s Court had imposed a travel ban on the man after he had attempted to flee to Australia via boat in 2012.
However, the suspect had attempted to travel to Malaysia using a fake passport during which he was apprehended yesterday.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the man had prepared a fake passport by changing his bio-data.
He was arrested after Airport officials had become suspicious as the suspect was waiting after having received travel clearance.
The suspect has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Katunayake Airport Police for further investigations. (Newswire)
