Showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts, the Department of Meteorology said.
Fairly heavy showers around 75 mm are likely in some areas of Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces. Showers or thundershowers may occur in Uva province and Ampara and Batticaloa districts in the evening or night.
Strong winds of 40-50 kmph can be expected over the Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, as well as in Trincomalee, Hambantota, and Monaragala districts.
The public is advised to take precautions to minimize damages from localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department has issued the following weather updates for the sea areas around the island.
Condition of Rain: Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Winds: South-westerly winds at 30-40 kmph, increasing to 60-70 kmph in sea areas from Trincomalee to Kalpitiya via Kankasanthurai and Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Wind speeds up to 60 kmph from Pottuvil to Batticaloa.
State of Sea:
- Very rough seas from Trincomalee to Kalpitiya via Kankasanthurai and Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
- Rough seas from Pottuvil to Batticaloa.
- Fairly rough seas from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Naval and fishing communities are advised to be cautious of temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas during thundershowers. (Newswire)
