Four new foreign university partnerships for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is set to sign five-year memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with four foreign institutions across in China, India and Japan in a bid to boost the internationalization of its higher education sector.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, in her capacity as Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Professional Education,  to enhance global academic cooperation.

The MoUs aim to strengthen international partnerships, promote joint research and exchange programmes, and improve the global ranking and internationalization of Sri Lankan universities, the government said.

Accordingly, the following MoUs will be signed for a period of five years:

  • University of Peradeniya with the Institute of Geology and Geophysics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, People’s Republic of China.
  • University of Kelaniya with Bharathidasan University, India.
  • University of Moratuwa with the Institute of Multidisciplinary Sciences of Yokohama National University, Japan.
  • University of Moratuwa with the National Institute of Technology (Tokuyama College), Japan. (Newswire)
