Showers or thundershowers are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka after 1 p.m. today (Oct. 31), the Department of Meteorology said.
Showers or thundershowers could occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces, as well as the Kurunegala, Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
Mainly fair weather conditions are expected in other parts of the island.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions against temporary, localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Showers or thundershowers are expected at several locations in the sea areas around the island during the next 24 hours.
Northeasterly winds are forecast in the sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Pottuvil via Batticaloa, while southwesterly or variable winds are expected in other sea areas.
Wind speeds are expected to range from 25 to 35 kmph, and sea conditions are forecast to remain moderate.
However, temporarily strong gusty winds of 60 to 70 kmph and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers, the Meteorology Department said. (Newswire)
