Five fishermen were arrested by Coast Guard personnel at the Wellamankaraya fishery harbour on October 1, 2026, after being found in possession of 35 kg of dried shark fish and 4.5 kg of shark fins.
The arrests were made during arrival formalities at the harbour.
Following the raid, the suspects, along with the seized dried shark fish, shark fins and their fishing vessel were handed over to the Wellamankaraya Fisheries Inspector’s office for further legal proceedings. (Newswire)
