Special traffic plan in Colombo for Vietnam President’s visit

The Sri Lanka Police have announced that a special traffic plan will be enforced in and around Colombo during the official visit of the President of Vietnam, To Lam.

President To Lam, who is currently on a state visit to India, is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka today (07) for a two‑day visit. He will depart the island on May 8.

The Police said the traffic plan will be in effect throughout the duration of the visit to ensure security and smooth vehicular movement in key areas of the capital.

The arrangements are expected to cover major routes around Colombo, particularly those linked to the President’s engagements during his stay.

According to the Police, following arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, on Thursday (07) the VIP motorcade is expected to proceed via: Katunayake–Colombo Expressway → Grandpass/Orugodawatte Junction → Baseline Road → Borella Junction → D.S. Senanayake Junction → Horton Place → Nelum Pokuna Roundabout → Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha → Library Junction → Mal Road Junction → Liberty Roundabout → St. Michael’s Roundabout → St. Michael’s Road → Galle Road → St. Michael’s Road Junction → Galle Road → Galle Face Roundabout → Galle Face Centre Road → Baladaksha Mawatha → NSA Roundabout → Lotus Road → Ceramic Junction → York Street.

Heavy vehicles will be prohibited from entering the above route two hours before the movement of the VIP. All other vehicles will be restricted once the VIP convoy commences travel.

The Vietnamese President is scheduled to proceed to the Presidential Secretariat on Friday (08).

Entry of heavy vehicles, including buses, via NSA Roundabout, Galle Face Centre Road, and Bank Mawatha will be suspended two hours before the Movement. All vehicular access will be restricted once the convoy begins its journey.

On Friday (08), during visits to key locations including the Public Library, Parliament, and President’s House, traffic restrictions will be imposed along: Galle Face Centre Road → Galle Face Roundabout → Kollupitiya Junction → Liberty Roundabout → Pittala Junction → Dharmapala Mawatha → Horton Place → D.S. Senanayake Junction → Nelum Pokuna Roundabout → Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha → and adjoining roads.

Following the conclusion of his visit, President To Lam is scheduled to depart for Bandaranaike International Airport on Friday evening via: York Street → Bank Mawatha → President Mawatha → NSA Roundabout → Chaithya Road → Port Access Road → Expressway.

The Police state that during the periods specified on 07 and 08 May, traffic limitations may be enforced on the aforementioned roads due to VIP security arrangements.

The Sri Lanka Police request motorists and the public to cooperate and utilize the designated alternative routes to minimize inconvenience. (Newswire)
