A photo exhibition highlighting bilateral cooperation between China and Sri Lanka was opened today at the new Outpatient Department (OPD) complex of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka in Colombo.
The exhibition, titled “Heart to Heart, Side by Side”, was inaugurated by Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, with the participation of Labour Minister and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando and Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong.
Organised within the China-funded OPD complex of the National Hospital, the exhibition showcases more than 350 photographs depicting key moments in the long-standing friendship between the two countries, including bilateral exchanges, Chinese assistance to Sri Lanka, major development projects, multi-sector cooperation and China’s achievements.
Addressing the event, Dr. Jayatissa said the new OPD building has created a more comfortable and efficient environment for both patients and healthcare workers, improving the delivery of quality healthcare services.
He noted that the National Hospital, Sri Lanka’s apex referral centre, has more than 3,600 beds and nearly 9,000 staff members, providing advanced healthcare services to all citizens without discrimination.
The Minister said the OPD project, completed under China Aid at a cost of 500 million yuan, represents a significant investment in strengthening Sri Lanka’s public healthcare infrastructure.
He added that international partnerships such as these directly contribute to improving the lives of ordinary people and expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government and people for their continued support.
Dr. Jayatissa said the exhibition reflects the long-standing diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and China while also highlighting successful cooperation in the fields of healthcare, infrastructure and education.
Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong, National Hospital Deputy Director General Dr. Sampath Indika Kumar and several other officials also addressed the event. (Newswire)
