Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (10).
According to the Department of Meteorology, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Mullaitivu districts after 2.00 pm.
Several spells of showers may occur in North-western province.
Strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the North-central, North-western, Central and Southern provinces and Trincomalee District.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be westerly to south-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can exceed 60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Batticaloa to Chilaw via Trincomalee, Kankasanthurai and Mannar, and from Galle to Matara.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough or very rough at times. Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into these sea areas, until further notice.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Batticaloa to Chilaw via Trincomalee, Kankasanthurai, Mannar, and from Galle to Matara will be rough at times.
The naval and fishing communities who are engaged in fishing and naval activities in the above sea areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
The wave height may increase about 2.5 – 3.0 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
