A 51-year-old man was arrested for illegal gem mining during a raid in the Gorthreewatta area of Maskeliya on April 3, Sri Lanka Police said.
The raid was carried out by officers attached to the Maskeliya Police Special Task Force camp following information received. The suspect was taken into custody along with excavation equipment used for gem mining without a valid permit.
Police said the suspect is a resident of the Maskeliya area and was handed over to the Maskeliya Police Station.
