Sri Lanka has recorded its highest position in the Henley Passport Index since 2014, climbing to 94th place in the 2026 global rankings.

The latest index ranks the Sri Lankan passport 94th globally with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 39 destinations, placing it alongside Libya.

The 2026 ranking marks an improvement from 97th place in 2025 and is the country’s strongest performance since it was ranked 88th in 2014.

After reaching a low of 107th in 2021, Sri Lanka has steadily improved its position in the annual index, climbing to 102nd in 2022, 100th in 2023, 96th in 2024, 97th in 2025 and 94th in 2026.

The Henley Passport Index, regarded as one of the world’s leading measures of passport strength, ranks 199 passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without obtaining a visa in advance.

The rankings are based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and are updated regularly to reflect changes in global travel access.
