President Ranil Wickremesinghe has condemned the recent brutal beating of a 4-year-old girl, promising swift action.

Posting on X, the President said that the child’s well-being must be prioritised and highlighted the enduring trauma that such abuse can inflict on children.

President Wickremesinghe referred to the recent incident where a man was caught on video brutally assaulting his child. The video, widely shared on social media, prompted calls for the man’s arrest on charges of child abuse.

“The brutal beating of a 4-year-old girl has rightly horrified the country. While the judicial process will address the perpetrators, we must prioritize the child’s well-being, which will require swift and decisive action from state officials,” President Wickremesinghe said.

The President who is also the Minister of Women and Child Affairs called for immediate measures to support the victim and stressed the importance of understanding the long-term impact of such trauma.

“We must remember at all times that there is no tomorrow without children, and their welfare must be our highest priority,” he said. (Newswire)
