Rain expected in some parts of Sri Lanka today

A few showers will occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts today (06), according to the Department of Meteorology. 

Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in the Rathnapura, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. 

Meanwhile, a few showers will occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo.

Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 55-65 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be very rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be fairly rough at times.

The wave height may increase about 2.0 – 2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. (Newswire)
