A special islandwide security programme has been implemented by the Ministry of Defence to ensure public safety during the upcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
The programme is being carried out jointly by the Tri-Forces, Sri Lanka Police and intelligence agencies, with security operations covering events including festivals, musical shows and religious programmes island-wide.
A Special Operations Room has also been established at Police Headquarters to coordinate activities and respond to emergencies.

The measures were introduced under the instructions of Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), to maintain a secure and peaceful environment throughout the festive period. (Newswire)
