Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today extended heartfelt greetings to Sri Lankan Muslims on the occasion of Milad‑un‑Nabi, the commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, calling for unity, justice, and coexistence in Sri Lanka’s multi‑ethnic society.
Premadasa said the Prophet’s life and teachings stand out for their respect for social peace, justice, and diversity. “In the multi‑ethnic society of Madinah, comprising people of various religions, races, and cultures, he demonstrated through his own actions how people can live together in peace and harmony,” he noted.
Highlighting the Prophet’s role in establishing the Constitution of Madinah, Premadasa said it ensured unity and security among diverse tribes and religious communities. “He taught that peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but also the presence of mutual respect and justice,” he added.
Drawing parallels to Sri Lanka, Premadasa emphasized that the country too is multi‑ethnic, multi‑religious, and multicultural. “Maintaining mutual understanding, coexistence, and brotherhood in such a society is essential for sustainable development and lasting peace,” he said.
He urged citizens to follow the Prophet’s noble path of peace and harmony to build a just Sri Lanka where everyone respects one another regardless of race or religion.
