
Showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (24), while several spells of showers may occur in the North Western Province.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Ampara, Monaragala and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 pm.
According to the Department of Meteorology, mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.
Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, the North-central and North-western provinces and in the Mannar, Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale Districts.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be South-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Wind speed can increase up to 45-50 kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island may be fairly rough at times.
The wave height may increase about 2.0 – 2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara.
Naval and fishing communities engaged in activities in the aforementioned sea areas, are advised to remain vigilant in this regard. (Newswire)
