The Urban Development Authority plans to launch the “Frolic Island Recreational Hub” project along both banks of the Diyawanna Oya for public leisure.
For the project, nine land plots covering a total of 13.57 acres have been identified.
Cabinet approval has been granted to a proposal by the Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development to call for investment proposals under government procurement guidelines, following an international competitive bidding process, to lease nine identified land plots for recreational projects along the Diyawanna Oya.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation has already carried out flood prevention development work in the Battaramulla wetland area near Diyawanna Oya, including waterway improvements around the Waters Edge Hotel.
These initiatives were announced in 2024 under the Kaduwela Urban Development Plan. (Newswire)
