The wife of former State Intelligence Service Director Major General (Retd.) Suresh Sallay has appealed to authorities to intervene and ensure his safety, claiming he is being treated in an “inhumane manner” while in custody.
Speaking to reporters after visiting Sallay at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Sunday, she said her husband had devoted 38 years of his life to serving the country and deserved fair treatment.
She said the family had repeatedly urged Sallay to end the hunger strike he has launched in custody, but he remained determined to continue in protest against what he considers an injustice.
“He is innocent. Everyone knows that. Investigations can continue, but he should be treated humanely,” she said.
Sallay’s wife also alleged that a Judicial Medical Officer’s report had referred to his treatment as inhumane, and accused authorities of making him a “scapegoat.”
She further appealed for him to be transferred to a hospital before his condition worsens, stating that he may not be in a position to request medical attention himself.
Sallay, who is being held under a detention order, was visited at the CID by his wife, son and brother.
The former intelligence chief recently commenced a hunger strike while in custody. Authorities have not publicly responded to the allegations made by his family. (Newswire)
