Rain expected in some provinces of Sri Lanka today

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today (19).

According to the Department of Meteorology, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva province and in the Polonnaruwa, Mullaitivu, Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m. 

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. 

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.  

Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.  

Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Matara via Kankasanthurai, Mullaitivu, Kalpitiya, Colombo, and Galle.
