The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has pledged support for the development of football in Sri Lanka, with discussions also focusing on the construction of a football ground and the provision of equipment for players.
FIFA Regional Director for Asia and Oceania Sanjeevan Balasingam made the assurance during a meeting with Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage yesterday (24).
According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the meeting focused on assistance that could be extended to Sri Lanka to support the development of football in the country.
During the discussions, Balasingam assured the Minister that FIFA would provide support towards efforts to further develop the sport in Sri Lanka.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of constructing a football ground with FIFA support.
The provision of necessary equipment for football players was also among the matters discussed during the meeting, which was held at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. (Newswire)
