
A Police officer attached to the Nilaveli Police Station has been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000.
The arrest was made by the Bribery Commission yesterday (16) following an investigation into a complaint lodged by a resident of Nilaveli.
According to the complaint, the officer had demanded and accepted Rs. 10,000 as a bribe to provide the necessary police report required for preparing documents related to the complainant’s overseas travel.
He was taken into custody by the Bribery Commission last evening at the complainant’s residence.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Kuchchaveli Tourist Magistrate’s Court today (17). (Newswire)
