A viral video circulating on social media shows a lorry hitting two traffic police officers riding a motorcycle on the Jaffna–Kandy main road in the Kalukunnammaduwa area of Vavuniya. The lorry driver, who fled the scene, was arrested this morning (24), police said.
According to police, the incident occurred while the two officers were pursuing a small lorry that ignored police orders to stop. During the pursuit, the lorry rammed the motorcycle, throwing the officers to the side of the road before fleeing.
The video, recorded by a person travelling in a vehicle behind, shows the motorcycle entangled with the lorry and being dragged forward.
Reports indicate the driver abandoned the lorry on the road after the motorcycle became stuck underneath it and escaped into a nearby forested area.
The suspect was later apprehended by Sri Lanka Army personnel near the Boo Oya Bridge and handed over to the police.
The two injured officers were admitted to Vavuniya Hospital with serious injuries.
The suspect and the lorry are due to be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate’s Court, while further investigations continue. (NewsWire)
