A suspect wanted in connection with motorcycle thefts and the snatching of gold chains from women has been arrested in the Homagama Police Division following an operation carried out by officers of the Western Province (South) Divisional Criminal Investigation Division on 23 May 2026, based on information received.
Police said the suspect was taken into custody along with 17 grams and 800 milligrams of the drug “ice” during the raid.
The suspect, a 28-year-old resident of Pannipitiya, is alleged to have committed a series of offences across several police divisions, including Kottawa, Migoda, Mirihana, Maharagama, Homagama, Malabe and Grandpass.
Further investigations led officers to recover two stolen motorcycles and a stock of gold chains believed to be linked to the robberies.
