A Police Sergeant arrested in connection with the death of a suspect while in police custody at the Kobeigane Police Station has been further remanded until November 12.
The order was issued by the Nikaweratiya Magistrate today (02), after the Police Sergeant was produced before the court.
The officer had been arrested in connection with the custodial death and was initially remanded until today, following his production before the court yesterday (01).
The incident relates to the death of a suspect who was taken into police custody in Kobeigane and subsequently died after being admitted to the Nikaweratiya Hospital on October 27.
Previously, two Police Sergeants and a Police Constable attached to the Kobeigane Police Station were suspended over alleged negligence in connection with the incident. (Newswire)
