The President’s Fund has launched a scholarship programme for the children of low-income lottery sales assistants, with the programme commencing in the North Central Province.

The inaugural programme for 2026 was held in Anuradhapura under the patronage of Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne.

Minister Susil Ranasinghe and President’s Fund Secretary and Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage also attended the event.

The scholarship programme is being implemented as a gesture of appreciation for the contribution made by lottery sellers to the President’s Fund through lottery sales.

The programme will provide educational scholarships to children from Grade 1 through the GCE Advanced Level and will be extended to cover all provinces.

Wickramaratne said every rupee received by the President’s Fund would be directed towards providing benefits and assistance to people in need.

He also said the President’s Fund, which has a history spanning 50 years, had truly become a fund of the people since last year.

The scholarship programme is intended to support the education of children of low-income lottery sales assistants while recognising their contribution to the fund. (Newswire)
