The government has approved plans to establish digital development units in government institutions to support the implementation of Sri Lanka’s National Digital Economy Strategy 2025-2030.
The decision follows the approval of the National Digital Economy Strategy 2025-2030 by the Cabinet of Ministers on Oct. 21, 2025. The new units will be responsible for coordinating digital transformation initiatives and implementing relevant programmes within government institutions.
According to the Cabinet decision, the units will be established based on a reference framework developed by GovTech Sri Lanka, with a Chief Digital Officer (CDO) appointed to lead digital transformation activities within each institution.
The initiative is intended to strengthen the digital transformation of government services and improve coordination among institutions involved in implementing the national digital economy strategy.
The relevant institutions will work with GovTech Sri Lanka to establish the digital development units and implement the required arrangements, with the process to be carried out under the direction of the Chief Digital Officer.
The Cabinet decision also states that the necessary institutional arrangements will be made to implement the programme in line with the National Digital Economy Strategy 2025-2030. (Newswire)
