Chief Government Whip Bimal Rathnayake said the President’s nomination for Auditor General is expected to be considered when the Constitutional Council meets today (31) for its second meeting with newly appointed civil society representatives.
The Council, chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, held its first meeting on Friday (30) with Prof. Wasantha Seneviratne, Austin Fernando, and Ranjith Ariyaratne attending after being jointly confirmed by the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition. Several other members participated via Zoom.
Although there had been expectations that a final decision would be made on the vacant Auditor General post during Friday’s meeting, the Council deferred the matter to a future session, the Office of the Speaker said.
Rathnayake, who represents the President on the Constitutional Council, said the nomination is expected to be reconsidered when the Council convenes today. (NewsWire)
