A 17-year-old schoolboy has died after being attacked with a sharp weapon in the Arapola area of Eheliyagoda early Sunday, police said.
The victim was an Advanced Level student at Eheliyagoda National School.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident is believed to have stemmed from a dispute that occurred near the Arapola School Junction on Saturday evening.
Police investigations have revealed that a youth had been speaking with two girls near the junction when another individual allegedly recorded them using a mobile phone. A dispute subsequently broke out between the two sides over the incident.
Police said the suspect later arrived at the schoolboy’s residence early Sunday and allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon before fleeing the area.
The seriously injured student was admitted to the Eheliyagoda Base Hospital, where he later died.
Police investigations are underway to apprehend the suspect. (Newswire)
