Dry weather expected in most parts of Sri Lanka today

Showers are expected in a few parts of Sri Lanka today (08), while mainly dry weather will prevail over the other parts of the country, according to the Department of Meteorology. 

As such, several spells of showers will occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.   

Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the Central hills, Northern, North-central, Central, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. 

Meanwhile, a few showers will occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo. 

Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 55-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island. 

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be very rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be fairly rough at times. (Newswire)
