An amber advisory has been issued for strong winds and rough seas in several sea areas around Sri Lanka, with gusts of up to 60 kph expected.
The Department of Meteorology issuing the advisory at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, said that it is valid until 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, and covers waters from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
These sea areas are expected to be rough at times, with strong, gusty winds of 50-60 kph.
Wave heights could also increase to about 2-2.5 meters in waters from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara.
Naval and fishing communities have been advised to remain vigilant. (Newswire)
