SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa has accused the government of attempting to downplay alleged irregularities related to payments made through the Road Development Authority (RDA), following recent denials by the administration.

In a post on X, Rajapaksa responded to Deputy Minister Prasanna Gunasena’s statement that allegations of duplicate RDA payments were “baseless.”

He said official records indicated otherwise, claiming that a Bank of Ceylon (BOC) “Recall of Funds” notice confirmed that Rs. 263 million had been erroneously remitted to contractors due to a “system error.”

Rajapaksa further claimed that over Rs. 51 million is still unaccounted for.

“While Deputy Minister Prasanna Gunasena calls allegations of duplicate RDA payments ‘baseless,’ official records tell a different story,” he said, adding that the situation raised questions about how such errors were being handled.

He also questioned the government’s response, referring to Minister Bimal Rathnayake, and accused the authorities of denying responsibility despite what he described as documented evidence.

“How can Minister Bimal Rathnayake justify this blatant denial in the face of such clear evidence?” he wrote.

Rajapaksa also referred to previous controversies, including alleged “Treasury email fraud”, urging the government to be transparent and accept responsibility instead of denying allegations. (NewsWire)
