Bimal Rathnayake criticizes parliament officials for excessive foreign travel

Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Rathnayake said in Parliament this afternoon (15) that officiala from parliament secretariat traveling abroad more frequently than necessary.

He noted that while some officials have made multiple foreign trips, they have not presented a single effective proposal for the benefit of the country.

Rathnayake added that although there are capable officers in Parliament, many have never visited a foreign country. He also pointed out that a small group of officials remain in Parliament who are only concerned about privileges, emphasizing that this Parliament is subject to the mandate of the people.

On the issue of restructuring parliamentary salaries and other functions, he said that although the Speaker had instructed the Secretary-General of Parliament on September 30 to submit the relevant report containing appeals, it has not yet been presented, and he does not know why the official failed to comply.
