Legal action initiated to evict illegal occupants from Yodha Wewa sanctuary

Wildlife officials have initiated legal action to evict 34 individuals illegally occupying 222 acres of land belonging to the Yodha Wewa Bird Sanctuary in Mannar District.

Cases were filed before the Mannar Magistrate’s Court on Monday (16), a month after eviction notices were issued to those unlawfully occupying the protected area.

The court has since issued notices to all 34 individuals, with further legal proceedings currently underway.

The operation was carried out under the direction of Senior Wildlife Range Officer P.B.B. Madugalle, with the involvement of Wildlife Range Officer N.G. Nadun Nilanka, Wildlife Range Assistant D.M.L.S. Thilakaratne, and Wildlife Guard R. Jothikaran from the Madhu Wildlife Office. (NewsWire)
