
Police have arrested an assistant manager and a security officer of a bank in connection with the recent robbery of Rs. 35 million that was being transported from a bank branch in Horana.
According to police, the money had been prepared for transfer to sub-branches and was being taken out of the bank premises on June 3 when it was allegedly stolen by an unidentified individual.
Following investigations, officers arrested the two suspects on Friday (June 5) near the Municipal Council playground in the Anguruwatota area. Police said the suspects were found in possession of Rs. 1.74 million believed to be part of the stolen cash.
The suspects, aged 43 and 54, are residents of Horana and Bulathsinhala. Police identified them as an assistant manager of the bank and a security officer who allegedly aided and abetted the robbery.
