Sri Lanka Police has rejected reports claiming that the Police Media Spokesperson stated that a suspect arrested with ICE narcotics in Homagama died due to an illness that occurred during a drug raid.
In a statement, Police clarified that the reports circulating in the media had falsely attributed such remarks to the Police Media Spokesperson.
The clarification relates to the death of a 29-year-old suspect arrested by Homagama Police officers with ICE at Pitipana Junction on October 25, 2026.
According to Police, the suspect had suddenly fallen ill after being brought to the Homagama Police Station following his arrest.
He was subsequently admitted to the Homagama Base Hospital for medical treatment, where he later died.
Police stated that the Media Spokesperson had issued a press release based on preliminary information received from the Homagama Police Station and had not claimed that the suspect fell ill during the drug raid.
The Police Media Division further explained that information released to the media is based on initial details provided by the relevant police stations or divisions.
Police urged the public to refrain from circulating misleading or distorted information before official medical reports are released or any suspicious circumstances requiring further investigation are established. (Newswire)
