A woman has been arrested following the circulation of a video on social media showing a child being assaulted, police said.
The video, which circulated on October 31, prompted officers attached to the Children and Women’s Bureau of the Enderamulla Police Station to take immediate action.
Police arrested the female suspect on the same day and took the child into protective custody.
Both the suspect and the child were subsequently handed over to the Cinnamon Gardens Police Station.
Investigations revealed that the alleged assault had taken place on October 28.
The child has been admitted to hospital, while Cinnamon Gardens Police are conducting further investigations into the incident (Newswire)
