PM Harini urges opposition to reconsider attacks on education reforms

Prime Minister and Education Minister Harini Amarasuriya says opposition members who collude with certain groups to attack the Government over education reforms really need to think carefully.

Speaking during a televised interview, PM Harini Amarasuriya responded to criticism on the government’s proposed education reforms, especially recent criticism on the rainbow colours on the covers of modules.

“Saw something about the fact that a rainbow was depicted on the cover of a module. The outer colours are the colours of a rainbow. How do you make sense of this kind of rhetoric? This is not criticism. This is not constructive in any way. This is vile. This is really vicious. This is the politics the people of this country rejected in three elections in 2024 and 2025,” she said.

Pointing out that these criticisms have nothing to do with education, PM Amarasuriya further said opposition members colluding with certain factions to attack the government must think carefully about the forces they are collaborating with for political reasons, and the damage they could do to themselves.

She added that the government was open to constructive criticism and has been responsive to the matter. (Newswire)
