Newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Wei Huaxiang met JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva at the party headquarters in Pelawatte.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed strengthening longstanding Sri Lanka-China relations, attracting greater Chinese investment and cooperation in poverty alleviation.

The Ambassador said Chinese investors would be encouraged to increase investment in Sri Lanka and noted that China’s experience in eradicating poverty could be useful to Sri Lanka.

Discussions also covered the government’s anti-corruption drive and the “Praja Shakthi” programme aimed at addressing rural poverty.

The two sides also noted that 2027 will mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and China and 75 years since the historic Rubber-Rice Pact signed in 1952. (Newswire)
