The Sri Lanka Navy, in an operation on Tuesday (13 Jan), seized five dinghies loaded with illegally mined sand along the Mahaweli River near the Upparu Bridge.
The search was carried out by naval personnel attached to SLNS Gokanna under the Eastern Naval Command.
In addition to the sand, the operation also led to the recovery of approximately 30 litres of illicit liquor from the area.
All seized items, including the dinghies, sand, and liquor, were handed over to the Kinniya Police Station for further investigation and subsequent legal proceedings. (Newswire)
