Delays in approving maize imports could lead to higher chicken and egg prices during the upcoming festive season, the All Island Poultry Association of Sri Lanka says.
Association President Ajith Gunasekara said the use of rice as a substitute for maize in animal feed has contributed to a significant decline in poultry meat and egg production.
He said about 20% of small-scale poultry producers have exited the industry due to a severe shortage of maize. (Newswire)
